My Mom's Living Room Reveal.

Saturday, June 2, 2012
I just got back from a long but great trip to Utah to visit my mom & her new husband.
My Mom didn't know where to start when it came to updating the sitting room. The room had pretty furniture in it, but it was dated and needed some color and lightness stat.

I only snapped a few befores because the room was really full of clutter from moving.

Before:

The walls had already been painted a light green that I had chosen for them earlier. I don't know the name off the top of my head, but it's so soft & pretty.

After:
Right when you walk in the door this is what you see now.

The one thing my Mom and William REALLY wanted was a gallery wall to show off all their kids & grandkids. So using all kinds of frames they had laying around & some fresh white paint their gallery wall is ready for some family pictures! The frames are empty sitting there pretty just waiting.

We moved the furniture around to a more friendly layout. They didn't really want to paint the fireplace or any of their wood furniture so I just paired it with a lot of light to balance out all that wood.

The couch is from Down to Earth at Gardner Village. It is upholstered in a linen burlap and has beautiful tucked arms just like the one from Pottery Barn but was a third the price. Definitely the best find of the whole room! I was so jealous. I asked her to will it to me when she dies. Too soon?

That store made me want to pack my bags and move to Utah. I pretty much had to wipe the drool off my face. Ok- not really... but I did really love all their stuff!

We found these chairs from Pier One in a light blue seer sucker stripe. They look like they were made for the sofa. Love it. There's two of them that flank the TV Armoir.
The silver floor lamp & rosette pillows are from Home Goods.

Though the fireplace is still a little dated, the cabinets have sentimental value which made paint out of the question for them. So I updated them by filling the built ins with larger, architectural, and white accessories.
We kept the accessories on the mantle simple but beautiful.

I chose a chunky jute rug to keep the room casual & comfortable. The table is from Down to Earth also, and the rug is from World Market.

The curtains I chose really bring all the colors of the room together. They are from World Market, the salesman informed me that they're getting discontinued, boo! If you love them, hurry out and grab em!

It was a lot of fun spending the week shopping and putting together this room for my Mom and her husband William to enjoy.

Not bad for my first design job, ey?

Very, pretty but not fussy. I like it. I noticed how pretty the white distressed frame was over the mantel. Have you considered giving the mantle a similar treatment ? Or painting the mantle a grey / taupe to pick up the colors of the stone ?
