The story of a toy box.

I recently redid a toy box that has been around since my birth or before I'm pretty sure. It was my toy box when I was a kid, and I have many fond memories of my brothers putting me inside and sitting on the top so I couldn't get out. 

The life of the only girl and 3 brothers. 

Enchanting I know. 

It's gone through many face lifts throughout the years, at one point, during the height of the decoupaging rage of the 90's my Mom and I painted it white, and decoupaged some rose tissue paper on it. Anddd it looked a little like this

 What a quality job I know, this might also be from my mom's "shabby chic" + chartreuse phase she went through for a while, but promptly gave up because... well I'm glad she's over that. 

Inspired by all the fabulous ideas on Pinterest a couple months ago I gave it a makeover. 

Now it fits perfectly with my taste + in  my house. 

& it's purpose is to stash my kids toys in our family rooming. 

That is the circle of life come to fruition. 

I love it.

Family Room Redo: Tuscan to Shabby

I am really excited about this post because of the huge change and little amount of money spent to transform this space! 

I helped my friend Ashley redo her family room.

We did the majority of the consultations online via images, and lots of messages back and forth.

Like so many people out there, she had a super Tuscan family room and was craving something a whole lot lighter without breaking the bank to buy all new pieces. 

Her big furniture pieces were all very classic in shape and color, so I knew we could make them work with just changing out a few accessories.

Here is the before: 

I think the total Ashley spent on this room was around $200. Which is amazing! 

The biggest change came from switching the rug out to a much lighter neutral, which she was lucky enough to come across a scrap piece of carpet for free. 

Totally would never know!

She painted a lot of the accessories she already had in white, yellow, and blue. 

The only other things she bought were pillows,  some new greenery, and lampshades.

So much lighter, it's amazing!

When I walked in the space to take pictures I was completely blown away! 

We didn't change a single large element of her space, no paint, no furniture, just tiny little things.

I think we both had some doubts that the little changes we made would make a noticeable difference but the feel of her room now is totally fresh, light, & shabby.

Amazing.
