Room Reveal: Grandma's House.

I spent a couple days with my mom visiting & working on a few spaces around her house. I somehow managed to forget my good camera so I don't have beautiful pictures to share with you.

But it would be a shame to not show you a few of her pretty spaces.

My mom lives in the cutest little cottage style house. Her style is modern countryish.

I hate labeling styles because it's hard, and I think it's boring to play by a certain "style"

It started with a {few} massive hauls to Homegoods. I love that I can go anywhere &know that Homegoods will have a TON of great options.

I apologize for all the phone pictures. Our main focus was  her basement which was newly finished, complete with pretty wood floors, and pretty soft grey walls.

I did end up doing a few projects while I was there, including making cornice boards for her living room.

She had moved her sofas down to the basement because they were a little oversized for her formal living room &found a beautiful Pottery Barn leather sofa at Downeast Home.

The chairs are from Pier One Imports.

The rug is from Down to Earth home.

The lamps are from Black Goose Design.

The coffee table is Ikea.

The art above the fireplace is made by me :). 

I love this old copper bucket on her hearth. It was filled with Hydrangeas but we swapped it out with some fall wildflowers & greenery. I love that this arrangement looks like we gathered it from the area that she lives.

The cornice boards were quite the project because I pretty much made it up as I went. Isn't that the only way to do things? Anyways, we ended up using a foam board from Lowes which made them really lightweight which was GOOD, they didn't need any crazy hardware to be hung.

This is the fabric we used, my mom had it picked out before I got there. 

I'm a neutral girl, but sometimes a whole bunch of pretty colors on a fabric makes me so happy.

Down in her basement half of it is a sitting area, and the other half is a game area that will have built ins eventually. We used some gauzy panels from Ikea, and picked up a beautiful cowhide rug for under the area. I am a little jealous. I want a cowhide in my house... somewhere.

I am really bummed I didn't get any good pictures of the sitting area that is adjacent to this table. It is pretty & might have even had some faux fur involved.

The Emporium at Thanksgiving Point.

I don't know why it is, but every town but your own seems to have supremo shopping.

Then you come home, go to your favorite places, and want to cry because they are just not near as cool. 

That's pretty much how I feel every time I go to the Salt Lake Valley.

One of my favorite shops was The Emporium down at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi. Serious eye candy every which way you looked. I thought I'd share some pictures of the shop. It was texture heaven, I was dying.

Next time you visit, you must go!

However, when you go, I recommend you leave all grumpy 2 year olds at home.

last minute mother's day gift ideas.

Un-procrastinators need not read this post. Your one-of-a-kind-handmade-by yourself-or-from-an-artist-on-etsy's-mother's-day-gift is more than likely already wrapped and in a safe place for Sunday dinner with your Mom. I applaud you, your thoughtfulness, and your planning ahead abilities. Truly I do. I wish I was more like  you in fact.

However, if you're anything like me and it didn't even dawn on you until this week that Sunday is indeed Mother's day than this is for you. It's MY day, you'd think I would remember such an event.

I think I remembered that it's my day to be honored... but somehow forgot that it's always my day to honor the Mother's in my life. 

Funny how that happens right?

I wouldn't mind washing the dishes if my dish rack looked like that... just saying.

A favorite thing I made.

This is me saying that I will reenter the world of the blog-living. I have vowed to actually. I have a lot to share, and I finally have minor amounts of energy.

Today I thought I would share one of my favorite things I have made for myself.

I create a lot. Between rooms, design school, crafts, projects, projects for clients, I am always making something. This sign that I made is one of my favorite things I have done so far though. I love the mix of stained wood words + paint.

I was inspired by all the mixing of stain and paint that Ashley does over at her amazing blog, The Handmade Home.

Utter disarray.

Between being out of town all last week, and putting on the Hoe Down yesterday our home is in complete chaos. I really need to get myself together!

Two things that are keeping me happy through the utter disarray.

Hoe Down.

I serve as an Activity Days leader for my church. We plan activities for the 10-11 year old girls that help develop their talents and teach them a lot about their own self worth.

I. love. my. calling.

This week we had a Father- Daughter Hoe Down for all the girls and their dads 8-11. 

I really loved how the decorations turned out. Here are just a few snapshots:

I totally forgot to take a picture of the awesome photo booth that Molly made. Dangit. It was pretty legit. We had each of the girls pose with their dads, and mustaches. They turned out pretty hilarious.

We had an array of mason jars to use as glasses at each table with chalkboard labels on them so that they could claim their cup. Not to mention real life wildflowers on every table that were picked from a vacant lot near where we live.

The dessert table was just as pretty.

The pictures I swear don't do it justice. The gym was transformed and SO awesome. It was so much fun to see the girls having a special night with their dads having a total blast line dancing, and cowboy relay racing.

Big Flower + Big Hair.

I have a lot to do today butttt.... I just thought I'd let you know....

I love big hair + big flowers. 

Let's see how long this flower lasts on me with my 9 month old.

I'm going to pretend that I'll wear it all day while the babe naps and I enjoy the fact that no one is grabbing at my accessories.

For all my long time friends reading this I think they might all agree that the "Jenna Hair" has made a come back. Oh how I love it. 

Which brings me to my next point.

Have you tried Kenra hair products? 

Well.. they're root lifting spray & hairspray is rocking my world right now.

I took a stab at making myself a headband.

Husband wouldn't let me wear it out today.

He said I look like a little goof in it.

Sad day. I felt adorable in it.

I got my first batch of stretchy lace and I'm in love.

Except I'm not sure how practical it is for the babe because it is far less secure than elastic.

She is so wiggly it doesn't stay on very well.

It's super cute though!

Maybe for special occasions and new born babes who wiggle far less.

Maybe there's a better kind of stretch lace out there that I haven't found yet.

Maybe, maybe, maybe... I still love it either way.

I might become that weird mom who wears headbands daily.

Is that strange?

You know those weeks...

Ever had one of "those" weeks... the weeks where you get almost absolutely nothing productive done!

You know when you don't get half the things done you planned.

Everything you try to do doesn't go right.

You feel uninspired.

You only blog ONCE the whole week.

I have an excuse... a pretty good one too!

Spencer has had unexpected time away from work and so we've been enjoying one another's company.

Grace and I have been so spoiled having daddy around.

Grace and I missed him entirely too much between his work, his class, and hospital rotations.

It's nice to have the Mr. around the house, though it does make me insanely unproductive.

It's a very very very good unproductiveness.

I have ordered a bunch of things lately that I am super excited about! I can't wait to share them with you soon.
